one year ago today, isis went to the hospital. i had no idea she was sick until that day. i have thought about her for every second of every day ever since.
this is what we all looked like last summer. isis is the one on the right. we were blissfully unaware that a few months after this photos was taken, isis would be gone.

koobs honored by new title

koobs went for her checkup the other day. her regular vet hadn't seen her in forever cause she was on maternity leave. she couldn't believe how good koobs looks. she called her the "greatest success story." koobs and i are very honored.

checkup

it's my first lol koobs. i know it isn't funny, but it's true! koobs went to the vet this morning and has gained two pounds since january.
here is a history of her weight (it would be awesome if my month-by-month weight was online somewhere):
September 2005: 14.2 lbs
July 2007: 11.4 lbs
August 2007: 10.7 lbs
January 2008: 12.12 lbs
April 2008: 14.10 lbs
koobs has done such a good job eating and getting healthy that she is kind of fat. the vet said she can't gain any more weight.
also, today's visit cost $299.

marmies are the swing vote

koobs is very proud to have sparked such a heated political debate on cuteoverload. while everyone has a right to their opinion, many of the comments are a leetle off the topic of how cute koobs is. so, here are the best on-topic comments:
Marmies are teh bestest.
RIP Trevor (1977-1993), 22 pound blob of snorgalicious lap cat.
Momof2kitties
On Topic - I'm LOVIN' the kitteh in the shirt, but, em.....how is it that it isn't splattered in human blood? I tried to put my Tika (striped Tabby RIP 9/1999) in a sweater once and she nearly eviscerated me LMAO!!!
ButtaRumCake
Cuuute!!! Are marmies going to be the swing vote? Will we see the candidates courting the marmie (and kitty) count in the upcoming months? That would certainly make those televised debates so much more interesting to watch. "Live from the PetSmart adoption center and hosted by Chris Matthews.."
chanpon
Will you all just shut the hell up? It's a cute cat, in a cute shirt. Isn't that what CO is about? Look at the chubby arms and neck rolls. Get off your political high horses and LOOK AT THAT PINK NOSE!
Ashley
Ya see that marmie is per.. Umm I mean Purrfect to wear the Obama shirt... Look at his adorable optimistic little kitty face.
Annie
Two things...
1) To YesWeCanHas: ROTFLMBO (rolling on the yada yada my BUTT off!!)
2) Has anyone followed the link at the bottom of the pic to Mary R.'s blog? I was in her situation (both kittehs have kidney failure) with The Boss (1990 - 2006) and to read her posts is absolutely heart-rending. Y'all should check it out if you get the chance and thanks for linking her blog Meg.
theoneflyinvet
I suppose I should preface this by saying I am, in fact, an Obama supporter, but would you check out how GORGEOUS this cat is?
He looks so sweet and snorgle-able. I think it's the way his shirt snugs against his little body. And look at his little white chin! And his perky ears and alert expression! I can't look away from this kitteh. He is like the ultimate marmie. I never really understood the whole "I want to nibble this kitteh, nom nom!" vibe until I saw this picture.
LOVE.

[i suspect that last comment might be from koobs's auntie t, pretending not to be auntie t by referring to koobs as a "he"]

the award for outstanding achievement in cuteness goes to...

KOOBS!
all our hard work these past few years has finally paid off! koobs is on cuteoverload.com. we totally retract everything we might have said about them holding a grudge against koobs.
if only isis could be here to see it.

isis, is that you?

lately, koobs has been doing things that only isis did - like nesting in the closet. i also think she is starting to look like isis. some people say they looked a lot alike but they never did to me. except when they were babies.

they tried to make me go to maine and i said "no, no, no."

on satruday morning i was packing for maine. i had packed koobi fora's things and got her box out. she must have figured it out cause she decided to hide under the bed. and she did not want to come out. i tried treats. i tried tuna. or i tried fake tuna. i got the can and the opener and she came to the door. but when i tried to catch her she ran back under. then we tried the vacuum trick. torie turns the vacuum on at one side of the bed in hopes she will come out the other. but it didn't work. i tried poking her out and she didn't budge. eventually i moved the bed and grabbed her. she was SO scared and upset and emitting that scent cats do when they're in danger.
when we were in the car i said, "koobi fora, let this be a lesson to you. i always win."
then i felt bad about the trauma getting her into the box and i let her out so she could sit on the seat. after a few minutes koobs came out of her box and peed all over my jacket.
she totally won.

priceless
don't get me wrong, koobs is priceless. but if she were to have a price, it would be approximately $375 a month. that is the average monthly cost of keeping a kitty with kidney failure alive based on my spending since july when she was diagnosed. she is worth every penny. but barf. no wonder i am broke.

gummy bracelet master

koobi fora has been so playful lately. usually i have to wake her up in the morning and drag her out of bed but lately she's been waking up before me and wanting to play. she brings a gummy bracelet up on to the bed and drops it right by my face. then she just stares at me with the most precious face.
she has also developed some awesome paw-eye coordination. when i throw the bracelet, she reaches her paw up into the air and catches it or knocks it down. it puts a damper on playing fetch because it doesn't go very far.

the orange fuzzy party campaign t(r)ail

due to poor voter turn-out in iowa and new hampshire, the orange fuzzy party will be recruiting volunteers all weekend. koobi fora is understandably upset that she has not been asked to participate in any televised debates.

sea otter

sometimes i called isis my "little sea otter" cause she had a large tummy and comparitively short paws. anyway, i am still tortured by the memories of her death and the knowledge that she was alone and miserable for a week before she died. i loved her so much and i am so sad that she's gone. i feel like it won't ever get better.
i totally borrowed that picture from here http://www.hep.man.ac.uk/u/aforti/Images/seaotter.jpg
