one year ago today, isis went to the hospital. i had no idea she was sick until that day. i have thought about her for every second of every day ever since.
this is what we all looked like last summer. isis is the one on the right. we were blissfully unaware that a few months after this photos was taken, isis would be gone.

the award for outstanding achievement in cuteness goes to...

KOOBS!
all our hard work these past few years has finally paid off! koobs is on cuteoverload.com. we totally retract everything we might have said about them holding a grudge against koobs.
if only isis could be here to see it.

isis, is that you?

lately, koobs has been doing things that only isis did - like nesting in the closet. i also think she is starting to look like isis. some people say they looked a lot alike but they never did to me. except when they were babies.

koobs is such a little angel about taking her medicine. here she is curled up in my lap with a giant needle in her back.

priceless

don't get me wrong, koobs is priceless. but if she were to have a price, it would be approximately $375 a month. that is the average monthly cost of keeping a kitty with kidney failure alive based on my spending since july when she was diagnosed. she is worth every penny. but barf. no wonder i am broke.

gummy bracelet master

koobi fora has been so playful lately. usually i have to wake her up in the morning and drag her out of bed but lately she's been waking up before me and wanting to play. she brings a gummy bracelet up on to the bed and drops it right by my face. then she just stares at me with the most precious face.
she has also developed some awesome paw-eye coordination. when i throw the bracelet, she reaches her paw up into the air and catches it or knocks it down. it puts a damper on playing fetch because it doesn't go very far.

tonight there was a marathon of orangutan island and koobs was captivated yet again.

the orange fuzzy party campaign t(r)ail

due to poor voter turn-out in iowa and new hampshire, the orange fuzzy party will be recruiting volunteers all weekend. koobi fora is understandably upset that she has not been asked to participate in any televised debates.

sea otter

sometimes i called isis my "little sea otter" cause she had a large tummy and comparitively short paws. anyway, i am still tortured by the memories of her death and the knowledge that she was alone and miserable for a week before she died. i loved her so much and i am so sad that she's gone. i feel like it won't ever get better.

couch potato

koobi fora really enjoys watching animal planet. no joke. she was enthralled with a special about bears. here she is watching a commercial for our new favorite show, orangutan island.

the open road

koobi fora went to maine for christmas. she got out of her box and sat in the seat next to me. santa brought her a catnip filled chipmunk.

i finally opened up the box to put the picture inside. there are not loose ashes inside. they are in a little baggie.

in her sister's paw steps

isis (top) was very fond of the bathtub. she used to get in between the shower curtain and the liner when i was in the shower and wait for me to finish. then she would jump in and catch the drips. she would come out all wet and with a little kitty mohawk. then i got a new shower curtain and she started waiting on the toilet next to the shower. eventually, koobs (bottom) would join her and they would both sit on the toilet - isis on the tank part and koobs on the seat part. after isis died, koobs stopped coming in the bathroom. but recently she's been coming in and sitting on the tank part just like isis did. she has no real interest in getting in the tub though and she gets kind of annoyed if i bring her in.

soft like a bunny

koobs went in for a urine test this morning but she didn't have enough pee so she had to stay there until she peed. i enjoy taking her to the vet because the doctors and nurses coo over her and tell her how pretty and well behaved she is. her regular doctor is on vaca this week so she saw someone else who said she was "soft like a bunny."

November 14

november 14th is an important day in kitty history. i know this because it is zoe's birthday and i always forget it because of the important kitty things.
two years ago, there was a mouse in the house. i assumed if they ever saw a mouse, koobs would go after it and isis would hide. but the opposite happened. isis wanted to play with it and koobs hid under the couch.
one year ago, i was so scared that there was something wrong with isis. she had been peeing on the floor and i took her to the vet. they told me nothing was wrong with her.
and today was the alarm and fireman incident. which was very exciting for koobs.

i just got this tattoo. i thought about getting different hieroglyphic representations of isis. but i wanted it to be for both of them so i did this instead. and now they will be with me forever.

home for good

i brought isis's ashes home on friday. i wanted koobi fora to be interested in them or to recognize them in some way. but she doesn't. here she is posing with the box. there is a spot for a picture but you can't get the picture in unless you unscrew the box and i'm worried that things will fall out. i am going to build a shrine.
